I wasn’t going to post on here today because I haven’t really done much to my niche blogs.  I am now ranking #2 in Google for both blog #1 and blog #2 which is great but still very little traffic.  This actually has me a little confused as I did choose these niches with the minimum of 2900 a month searches so I would have thought that sitting at #2 in Google would bring more traffic than it is, so that is quite disappointing.

So far I’m a little disappointed with it all as the progress is slow and traffic is slow, but having said that it is also my own fault because I’m really not putting the effort in that I should be.  I should be adding more blog posts and writing and submitting more articles than I am so it is completely my fault for being slack.

Well that ranking drop only lasted a couple of days thankfully, now blog #3 has come back to page 1 in Google and is in fact ranking at #5 (it was at #8 previous to disappearing from ranking).

So I am rather happy with that today as although I was trying not to let it bother me too much, it was worrying me a bit.  I don’t like it when my sites drop out of ranking like that.

So sitting at#5 hopefully I might start seeing some results from this blog.  I intend on spending a couple of days later this week working on this blog and adding some more posts and backlinks.

Well blog #1 and #2 are still doing well and ranking at #3 and #4 in Google respectively.  However, my disappointment today is that blog #3 has gone!  It hasn’t been de-indexed, it is still indexed but it has dropped right out of ranking in the top 1000.

This is the oldest out of the three blogs (only by about a month) and has more content than the other two blogs so I wasn’t really expecting this.  I’m hoping this is just the Google Dance which I’ve heard about where new sites can just disappear and then a few days later they come back.  Often they will come back ranked higher than they were before they disappeared.

So fingers crossed that it is just the Google dance and that it hasn’t just been lost for good.  I would think if it was anything serious it would be de-indexed completely and not just drop drastically in ranking.  It is actually ranking at #1 in Yahoo for my keyword phrase so that is one good thing at least.

Yesterday I planned to give blog #1 a rest for a couple of days and concentrate on blog #2.  However, I got caught up doing a bit tidy up of my hosting accounts.  You see I have my basic hosting account at Hostgator and I also have a reseller account at Hostgator.  But I don’t use the reseller account as much as I use to and I still had a heap of sites taking up space on there that weren’t even hosted there anymore (didn’t have nameservers pointing to my hosting anymore).

So yesterday I decided to go through and check which websites could be deleted and deleted them all.  What I thought would be a reasonably quick job ended up taking me almost all day.  It’s all done now though other than a couple of sites that are my own that I need to backup and transfer to other hosting, then I will be able to close my reseller account and have a normal hosting account for them.  That should save me $25 a month! The kids are back at school so I’m now back to work, although I still have one child home for another day yet.  I have spent the last couple of days working on just one of my new blogs.  I have done some more keyword research on the niche and found some related long tail keywords.  I have created blog posts and categories for three of those keywords.

My plan is to try and rank well for the other long tail keywords as well as the main keyword phrase.  By doing that I should receive more traffic to my blog than if it was just coming from one keyword phrase.

I then rewrote the articles on my blog posts and submitted them to some article directories and also some of my own backlinking blog sources.  I have a number of my own general purpose blogs like a general wordpress blog and one at SOSBlog and a couple of others, so I add my article to these blog sources for backlinks. Well my blogs have been put on hold for a week while I took some time off and went camping with the family.  We didn’t go far, only about 50km from home, but it was good to be away from the computer for a few days and out in the great outdoors.  We stayed at Wirrina caravan park which was really nice, not a very fancy park but it was very ‘natural’ which the kids love.  We were down the back of the park which was quiet, surrounded by lots of trees and wildlife.

At night there were kangaroos around and possums and my husband and one of the kids even caught a glimpse of a red belly black snake – needless to say they kept away from that area after that.  We took an extra child with us, my oldest boys friend came with us, which was good as it evened up the numbers with the kids and therefore we had a bit less fighting than normal.
